Bathroom Drywall

When thinking of installing bathroom drywall you may consider going with fiberglass coated drywall other than the conventional paper kind. Fiberglass drywall is a bit different because its texture is rougher. It is moisture resistant and also made to resist mold and mildew. This makes it ideal for areas like bathrooms and basements because these are high moisture areas. While fiberglass coated drywall isn't completely waterproof it is quite resistant. Although some paper drywall is treated with moisture resistant materials many homeowners still prefer fiberglass for these areas.

Although fiberglass drywall is more difficult to find than paper drywall it can be obtained. You can find it at many home improvement superstores like Lowe's or Home Depot. You may also find this type of drywall for sale online. The installation of this type of drywall is very similar to paper drywall, except there is no need to install a vapor barrier. A vapor barrier is used with traditional paper drywall to protect the paper and gypsum core from moisture damage. If you are planning to install your own drywall, there are some precautions you should know about first.

For example, fiberglass drywall can be irritating to the eyes, nose and throat. You will need to wear protective gear such as safety glasses and a face mask when working with this material. Also it is a good idea to have all your supplies gathered before you begin. You will need the drywall, the screws to install it, the tape and joint compound, and of course the necessary tools such as compound trowels and a screwgun. While you can screw your drywall in by hand it is much more labor intensive. With a screwgun you can work much more quickly and have the peace of mind of knowing all your screws are installed correctly.

If you're not the do-it-yourself type, you may want to hire a contractor to install your bathroom drywall. Depending on the size of your bathroom this project could be finished in only a few days. When researching contractors the Yellow Pages is a good place to start. Look for contractors who offer free estimates and who are professional and licensed. Once you've chosen the right company for the job you are ready to have your bathroom updated with fiberglass drywall.
