How To Paint Drywall
Learning how to paint drywall is a task you can do on your own if you have basic painting skills. You might even want to install your own drywall as well. Drywall is a gypsum core covered with either paper or fiberglass. Although fiberglass is popular for areas like basements and bathrooms due to its level of moisture resistance, paper covered drywall remains the most popular choice for various reasons. It is cost efficient, fairly simple to hang and looks great once properly installed.
The first step when installing drywall is to attach it to the wall studs using nails or screws. A screwgun is a good investment because it results in perfectly installed screws. It can certainly save you a lot of work and effort. After the drywall sheets have been hung you will need to tape and seal them with joint compound. Each layer of joint compound will need to dry thoroughly before the next layer is applied. After the drywall has been taped and sealed with joint compound you will want to sand, prime, then paint.
Sanding the walls will result in a uniform appearance where there may have been bumpy areas. Priming your walls is important because not only does it help fill in any cracks or uneven spaces it helps the paint adhere better. After your primer is fully dry you are ready to paint. Painting interior drywall is really no different at this point than painting any other type of wall. You will need to protect the floor area with tarp and start in the corners, working your way to the middle of the wall. There are plenty of books and resources that will show you how to properly paint a wall.
Of course if you don't want to learn how to paint drywall on your own you can hire a professional contractor to do it for you. If you have already installed the drywall you might just want to hire a professional painter. If you've done nothing and want the process done from start to finish an experienced full service contracting company is what you will need. By obtaining estimates from a variety of contractors you can find the best deal for your money. Just make sure to check references and make sure they have no complaints with the Better Business Bureau before you hire them.
